A saree for your wedding party can be all about the right choice of color, fabric, design, cultural aspect, and blouse design. With changing trends, every woman needs to have a collection that reflects her modern persona as well as the traditional roots they want to stick to. There are a few factors that can speak volumes about your wedding saree style. Let’s have a look!

Find Your Perfect Match: #Saree Edition

A desi drape is not just a necessity of every Indian woman but also a style factor to be considered. In that matter, style and co-ordinating sense can take the wedding saree look a long way. The perfect matching or designer blouse, saree as per your skin tone or to match the occasion and best design is essential. Here is how you can go about your silk printed sarees or bridal net sarees.

Dive Into Your Hues

The color reflects how strong your coordinating and combination game is. You can get a multi-colored saree, plain saree with heavy border, monotone, pastel shades, or bright shades for your occasions. Red, golden, and green are basic traditional hues. Pastels can look winning for a minimalistic style and for the more glam game one can go for metallic hues.

The Fabric Magic

You will be surprised to know that the fabric of your designer saree or ethnic saree can add a fun, modern, chic, and traditional appeal. For cocktail parties and sangeet one can opt for chiffon, crepe or georgette ruffle sarees. For that Indian coy look, wedding silk sarees are the best bet. And if you are a party babe, the metallic drapes or pre-pleated sarees in lycra or satin can be your major fashion hack.

Prints & Patterns That Pop

These design elements are crucial to every woman’s wardrobe. You can opt for effortless, chic, or stunning prints and patterns as per your body type and skin tone. Bulky women can choose wedding sarees with fine borders and details. Dusky women must count on sarees that are in subtle hues like beige, ivory, brown and maroon. Overall, you can make your saree look modern, fashionable, and perfect by considering your skin and body type.

Preparing The Saree For Wedding Party

Preparing the saree in advance for an upcoming wedding is essential, effective and can help you get ready quickly. Here is what you must do to have your saree sprinkle loads of grace on you.

Un-wrinkling

I hope no one would want to experience that horrible feeling of ironing the saree at the last minute. Use a regular iron or steam away the wrinkles with the equipment and keep away the saree ready to be worn for the next day’s wedding or wedding party.

Pre-pleating The Saree

Again, to avoid the last-minute hassle and mistake, try to pre-pleat your saree the night before. This would hold the pleats into place and would save you a lot of time. Also, those who are new can get the perfect look even without having a lot of ‘pleating’ experience. You can take the help of any elderly woman at home or YouTube tutorials for pleating the saree.

Saree Draping Styles For Party

Bengali Draping

The Bengali draping trend is very traditional yet flattering. Pick a fantastic white saree with a bright red border and here is how you can transform yourself into a Bong diva.

  • Step 1- Wrap the saree once around your waist, and tuck it to the right-side hip. Take the continued edge and tuck it to the left side of the waist. Now reverse the direction and move from the right tuck; get the saree edge across the front of your waist and tuck again on the left side. This back-and-forth folding is called box pleating.
  • Step 2- Fold the remaining saree to make pleats. Throw the folded pleats or section over the shoulder and now the pallu will be thicker as it’s folded. Position it over your left shoulder and the bottom of the pallu behind your shoulder should fall somewhere between mid-calf to lower calf length.
  • Step 3- Ornament the other hanging end of the saree in such a way that the decorated part or border side falls around the top to mid portion of your back.

You can select from the vast range of red and white sarees from KALKI For that Bengali vibes into your wardrobe.

Dhoti Style Saree Draping

  • Step 1- Tie and fold the saree to your waist like a usual saree. Leave a length of the fabric free from the left side. Pick the longer end and fold it around from the left side to the front again.
  • Step 2- Pin up the drape together, where the right meets or overlaps the left end. Take pallu pleats width-wise and pull them to the left shoulder and pin it. Pull the inner edge border, pin at the back waist, and gather pleats across. Take front pleats across the bodice and wrap around the hips bringing it to the front centre.
  • Step 3- Spread pleats at the hip and gather again to pin them at the centre leg. Now take 1.5 metres approx. saree fabric that was left loose and made pleats on a width-wise section so that the border faces the front. Take out pleats from between the legs and pull up to the front from the back. Tuck at centre back.
  • Step 4- Pull the loop cowl in front out and make pleats on the lengthwise side neatly. Now, tuck pleats on the centre waist and adjust the cowl and pleats properly where required.

Pallu Styling For Parties

Pallu over the shoulder is a basic method of draping a saree. However, pallu in its new avatar and style can take your wedding saree look a notch higher. Explore a few here.

Open Pallu

It’s basic yet versatile to add a classic and elegant touch to your saree draping. The basic open style doesn’t have the traditional covering effect like the pleats, so it gives you a fresh appeal every time you flaunt it. Designer printed sarees look fabulous in open pallu.

Sidha Pallu

The pallu in this comes on the front side and looks great on Gujarati, Rajasthani, and Haryanvi women. This back-to-the-front pallu is experimented by women across the nation for that rich traditional appeal. Bandhani saree and silk patola sarees are apt for this style statement.

Hairstyles and Make-up Ideas

One can always make a striking choice with their hairdo and make-up for weddings and parties. Here is how you can achieve the best.

Hairdo

You can tie a bun or a loose bun for that neat look to go with your rich ethnic sarees. You can go for classy hair jewels and royal flowers to adorn the outer edge of your bun. If you wish for that uber simple and chic hairdo, you can keep your locks open or poker straight.

Make-up

You can level up your wedding saree game with the neutral, dewy, or loud make-up. However, a very bright and flashy make-up or colored face can ruin the look of an already rich or glittery saree. Your make-up can be matched and co-ordinated with the saree you are wearing- designer, silk, heavy or saree gown.

Choosing the Right Accessories

Wearing loud colours and eclectic traditional sarees calls for heavy traditional jewels. However, if it is a pastel that you have opted for, floral, funky, and quirky accessories must be embraced.

Accessories

Accessories like waist belts, footwear and bags can be the heart and soul of your overall wedding appearance. A blingy belt, embellished footwear and formal or casual potli bag and purse can ace up your overall saree game. You can choose a colorful clutch with plain sarees or a plain footwear or bag with shimmer saree.

Jewellery

Simple gold jewellery, imitation jewellery, temple jewellery, floral jewels, pearls, and diamonds are a few choices in trinkets and an excellent option to match with the kind of saree you have selected for the party. You can choose accordingly for that eye-catchy effect and right appeal.
