Some weddings unite two people, while others bring together entire worlds. For this Sydney-based bride and groom, their celebration beautifully connected their Rajasthani and Haryanvi roots with the culture and warmth of Bangkok, the city the bride had always called home.
The bride grew up in Bangkok, while Mihir, a Haryanvi raised in Sydney, came from a completely different cultural background. Their paths crossed in Sydney after they matched on Bumble in January 2019. Over the years, their relationship grew into a beautiful blend of their distinct cultures, families and upbringings.
When it was time to choose a destination for their wedding, Bangkok felt deeply personal. Celebrated across Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort and Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel, the wedding allowed the bride to return to her roots while bringing together everyone who had shaped their journey.
A Celebration of Rajasthani and Haryanvi Roots
Every wedding function was thoughtfully designed to represent a different part of the couple’s story.
The Mehendi celebrated the bride’s Rajasthani heritage through a vibrant Marwari-inspired theme titled “Marwar Ki Mehendi.” Rich colours, traditional details and lively performances created an atmosphere filled with the energy and warmth of Rajasthan.
The Haldi turned towards Mihir’s Haryanvi heritage. Titled “Baharo Phool Barsao,” the celebration reflected the joy, spirit and cultural traditions of his family.
By giving both their backgrounds an equal place within the festivities, the couple ensured that their wedding felt deeply personal. It was not merely a destination celebration—it was a meeting of two families, two cultures and two different childhoods.
Bringing the Spirit of Thailand to the Wedding
Bangkok was more than just the wedding destination. It was an important part of the bride’s identity, and the couple honoured that connection through a graceful Thai cultural dance performance.
Dressed in vibrant pink-and-gold traditional ensembles with intricate jewellery and ornate headdresses, the dancers brought the elegance of Thai culture to the celebration. Their precise movements, expressive gestures and striking costumes created a captivating moment against the pastel floral setting.
The performance added another meaningful cultural layer to the wedding. Alongside the couple’s Rajasthani and Haryanvi traditions, it represented the city in which the bride had grown up. The result was a celebration that did not choose between cultures but allowed each one to find its own beautiful expression.
A Pastel Bridal Dream Almost Replaced by Red
Long before the wedding planning began, the bride had imagined herself in a pastel pink bridal lehenga. Her mother, however, was convinced that she should wear traditional red.
Together, they explored numerous shades of red, maroon and pink, hoping to find something that reflected the bride’s romantic vision while still carrying the grandeur her mother associated with a bridal look.
Then came her visit to KALKI’s store.
The very first bridal lehenga she tried on changed everything.
Featuring a dreamlike blend of lavender, white, pink and pastel yellow, the lehenga brought together all the colours she loved. Its intricate embroidery and exquisite craftsmanship gave the delicate palette an unmistakably regal presence.
The moment she walked out to show her family, she felt an instant connection. The lehenga was soft yet striking, contemporary yet timeless, and whimsical without losing its bridal magnificence. Wearing it made her feel as though she had stepped into her own fairytale—a princess dressed in pastels.
She immediately knew it was the one.
When the First Choice Is Truly the Right Choice
Her mother was not ready to conclude the bridal shopping journey after just one lehenga. Determined to ensure her daughter was not being impulsive, she encouraged her to continue looking.
For the next five days, they visited other stores and explored several more bridal ensembles. Yet no matter how many options she tried, nothing recreated the feeling she had experienced in that first KALKI lehenga.
Eventually, she returned to KALKI and chose the very first outfit she had fallen in love with.
Sometimes, the heart recognises the right choice immediately—whether it is the person you wish to spend your life with or the lehenga you wish to wear while beginning that life.
Her Pastel-Clad Bridesmaids by Her Side
The bride’s pastel vision extended beautifully to the women standing beside her. Her bridesmaids appeared in a harmonious mix of powder blue, champagne, ivory and other soft neutral shades.
Rather than wearing identical outfits, each bridesmaid expressed her individual style through different silhouettes, from delicately embellished lehengas to graceful saris. The coordinated pastel palette connected their looks while allowing every outfit to retain its own personality.
The colours also complemented the bride’s multihued lehenga without taking attention away from it. Titled “A Canvas of Love – An Eternal Promise in Pastel Hues,” the ceremony was imagined as a romantic landscape inspired by the colours of the sunset. The mandap was positioned beside the riverbank, where the water, evening light and soft floral décor created a naturally enchanting setting.
Its colour palette was intentionally planned to complement and contrast with the shades of the bridal lehenga. Against the delicate surroundings, the lavender, pink, white and pastel-yellow embroidery stood out beautifully.
As the colours of the sunset appeared over the river, the entire scene came together like a painting—the floral mandap, shimmering water, pastel-clad bridesmaids and the bride in the lehenga that had inspired it all.
Three Cultures, One Beautiful Beginning
From a Bumble match in Sydney to a riverside wedding in Bangkok, their story was shaped by different cities and cultures. Her Rajasthani upbringing, Mihir’s Haryanvi heritage, their shared life in Sydney and her connection with Thailand all found a meaningful place in the wedding.
