Loads of magic, accessories, embroideries, florals, pastels, old-world glamour and more. We are talking about Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty who married cricketer KL Rahul on January 23rd, 2023. Much before the wedding gala began, the bride was adamant that she would eschew traditional reds and greens in favour of pastels for her wedding looks. The babe who was clear that red would not be the colour for her D-day appeared gorgeous in her desired hues and outfits. Designer Anamika Khanna and celebrity stylist Ami Patel helped put together Athiya’s wedding look. Her pre and post-wedding looks by other ace designers and stylists were equally stunning and subtle.
Let’s see how understated elegance of pastels is reflected in almost all her wedding silhouettes.
1. Muse At The Muhurtham Ceremony
As anything garish and subdued was a big no for the diva, she opted for a gold and fuchsia pink saree for her muhurtham ceremony. Madhurya Creations clothing provided the handwoven bridal saree to Athiya that championed Indian craftsmanship and artisans- the way the bride had wanted it to be. Her understated six-yard was adorned with a beautifully designed pink blouse with golden stripes. Moreover, it was a pocketful of lessons for the brides to be on-point with the colour, fabric, and design.

2. Accessories & Make-up- Dimple Cheeks, Rosy Lips
Her make-up and accessory choice were the coming together of the bride’s beauty and stylist’s aesthetics. Choker necklace, jhumkas and a few traditional bangles complemented the look of her wedding ritual saree. Very fine and neat make-up with a glowy base, all that blush and the entire appearance looked so appealing and wholesome.

3. Hair-do- A Floral Affair
Hundred percent of everything showed in her look and her floral bun was one of them. Handpicked flowers for the traditional bun were the highlight of her muhurtham appearance. Well, there is something intuitive and visceral about picking fresh flowers for a hairstyle. Isn’t it? Artist Simran Gidwani offered her simpler and earthy finish with ornamental flowers and made her appear like a desi diva.

4. Subdued Mehendi Look- The Road Less Taken
Athiya looked like a breath of fresh air in her entire bridal scenarios. For mehendi, she opted for a pastel chikankari lehenga from designer Anjul Bhandari. Embellished with intricate chikankari work, her outfit looked ethereal and ethnic. However, the short-sleeved blouse with scoop neckline took the style quotient up. Flared lehenga skirt and embroidered dupatta in chikankari work would spark a trend of brides going understated and tone-on-tone.

5. Accessories & Make-up- Hitting On Subtle Yet Again
Even her makeup included undertones of light pink and nudes. Artist Namrata Soni captioned her mehendi make-up as “sun-kissed glow”. The make-up looked ‘lit-from-within’ which involved classic subline contouring technique. The make-up resulted in a polished effect and looked so artful and striking. Chaandbalees and maangtikka gave her a meaningful ethnic approach and personal touch. Vintage earrings that she put on had once belonged to her grandmother and strangely enough- it was the outfit that was built around the earrings and not the other way round. So loving and unusual. Isn’t it?

6. Haldi- Just A Bang-on In Anarkali
One wouldn’t have seen something as exquisite as Athiya’s Anarkali and gharara outfit for haldi. The golden work ivory cotton ensemble was adorned by handmade gold gota work which took 2000 hours of craftsmanship. And with the ace designer, Ritu Kumar, Athiya’s journey in her haldi outfit has been all the more special. The outfit had an old-world charm in its own uniqueness and light.

7. Hair-Do- Truly Vintage With Florals
It’s not the usual camera rolling for her, so each and every element of her bridal journey had to be special. For her haldi, she went for a fantastic floral crown braid style. The half-up and half-down do of her pretty locks were in tandem with the vintage as well as versatile outfit choice. Her hairstyle for haldi was not only mind blowing but didn’t overlap with any of her other hairstyles for weddings.

8. Make-up & Accessories- So Momentous
Her make-up seemed to be taking her back to the roots and yet retaining her ‘fashion babe’ look of the contemporary world. Apart from the heavy maangtikka, it was all a less-is-more approach for the then bride-to-be.

9. Vintage Over Contemporary- Her Wedding Day Theme
Fans were left speechless by Athiya’s bridal grace in Anamika Khanna’s embroidered wedding lehenga. The delicately embellished floral designs all over the bridal ensemble took the beauty of the blush pink lehenga a notch higher. Floral blouse and matching dupatta as a pallu and veil looked so loving as well as painstaking. Her wedding day ensemble beautifully blended both the worlds for the bride.

10. Make-up- For Minimal Mood Board Again
It was surreal and dwelling on minimal again For D-day, the actor chose a soft nude makeup look created by artist Namrata Soni. Her blush, eyeshadow and highlighter reflected tones of pink and nude. Her make-up was a vision of all things understated. Brides and bridesmaids can embrace this less-is-more approach for a fail-proof look. She paired her wedding outfit with polki jewellery. One major highlight and a path-breaking jewel was her kaliras which had seven vows exchanged with KL Rahul engraved in Sanskrit and were adorned with fifty tiny, handcrafted sunflowers.

11. Post-wedding Bash- A Bit Of Chic This Time
Once again, she was graced by designer Anamika Khanna in a stunning customized sharara set for her post-wedding gala. The bright red outfit was adorned with intricate embroidery all over. Modern as well as traditional aesthetics were there to see through the glam and retro outfit.

12. Make-up & Accessories- A Mix & Match
Choker, diamond studs and show -stopping mangalsutra marked her post-wedding bash appearance. Make-up was minimal which was dewy glam, and it was further topped by a low ponytail.

Chic, classy and understated are the words as we saw so many unique trends, styles, and a mix of old and new through her wedding outfits. She combined all elements and aspects of fashion to remain classy yet desi. Her outfits blended so beautifully and seamlessly with the traditional vibes and modern sensibilities.
