A wedding is a sacred union of two individuals whose foundation is based on love, trust, and commitment. Indian weddings are fun-filled events that involve not only the bride and groom but their families as well. Days and months of venue hunting, wedding reception dress shopping, and planning of other nitty gritties are both exciting and overwhelming. Weddings are full of colour and customs followed by one’s culture and traditions. The dance, masti, rituals, ceremonies, and gaana-bajaana create memories that are priceless and are treasured forever. My wedding with my classmate and now my better half was no less than a fairytale that has left me smitten. So today I Aashka Ponda would like to share how my love story started and a few interesting details about my wedding day that will always be cherished.

Never Say Never
“Never say never” because you never know when life takes a twist and the thing or person that you have been running away from will become your most desirable thing at some point in time. Never in my dreams had I thought that I would fall in love with a person who was once my collegemate, my so-called enemy, and my competitor for University ranks. As destiny would have it, we became friends in the final year and soon we realised that there was no looking back.

Inspired By The Love Of Soul-Mates
We tied the sacred knot on the auspicious day of Ram Navami which is the birthday of Lord Ram. Since we are in awe of the love story of the two couples Ram-Sita and Krishna-Radha, who are the epitome of true love we decided that the theme of our wedding would be based on their love story. The backdrop of the venue had a picture of Krishna and Radha looking into each other’s eyes oblivious to what was happening around.

Our cameraman also caught me admiring my groom at the soul-stirring moment when he filled my maang with sindoor. I was soaked in love with gestures like my husband giving me a hand to help me walk up to the stage, the rain of flowers by the guests, joining of our foreheads, and kneeling down of my husband for the varmaala.

A Dream Comes True
As a student of Neurology, simplicity was my best friend. I was away from the glam of
fancy clothes and make-up. I found my dream wedding lehenga in a gorgeous pink color at KALKI which fulfilled my dream of looking like a Disney Princess. The mesmerising bridal lehenga choli set was embroidered with green and white flowers all over using pearls and sequins that gave a very enchanting look. It had two dupattas, a white net dupatta which again had flowers embroidered on the scalloping, and a pink dupatta with a sleek border.
The soft make-up and the mix and match of temple jewellery long necklace along with a pearl short necklace, maang tikka, a nose ring, and a matha patti elevated the look. All thanks to KALKI, on my wedding day my husband, my parents, and my siblings were taken aback by my transformation from a tomboy to a surreal princess avatar of mine in the enchanting pink lehenga choli. Honestly, deep in my heart I too couldn’t stop blowing my own trumpet and that is why I happily posed with a wide smile and arms open while the cameraman went Click! Click! Click!
