You know you are God’s favourite child when out of the blue something which you were yearning for, and thought was impossible comes true. When dreams become reality out of nowhere you know it is divine intervention or a magical force that helped you realise your dreams.
What Is Meant To Be Will Be
For me, KALKI came as a blessing, and it felt like I had hit the jackpot when I, Selma Nazer, found the golden lehenga of my dreams — something I had always fantasized about since childhood, inspired by an actress wearing it in a movie. I was so in love with the attire that I even had it as my computer wallpaper. However, this dream seemed like a far-fetched reality because all my near and dear ones discouraged both me and my sister from opting for a golden Indian bridal lehenga. This discouragement was so impactful that my sister dropped the idea of wearing one at her wedding.
I guess luck was by my side, and the universe too wanted me to wear the unique gold lehenga of my dreams. I came to Mumbai to shop for my bridal attires and was lucky to land at KALKI which got me completely smitten with their jaw-dropping collection of wedding dresses. I was so mesmerised by the Indian bridal lehengas that I was almost convinced to opt for a traditional red bridal lehenga since I felt nothing could get better than this. I even shortlisted options, one of them being an orange lehenga with a silver skirt.
Just as I was about to leave the store, the stylist came out (unaware of my original colour preference) and asked me to try on a gorgeous gold dress for a wedding. Little did the stylist know that this was the attire I had always wished for but was unsure about—until now. The moment I saw the stunning bridal wear, my heart knew at that very instant that “this was it”. That is the saga of my bridal lehenga and the power of true craving.
Love Beyond Boundaries
Our love story goes back to our school days when we were only 17 years old. That was when my soulmate (now my husband) came to Trissur and joined the school I was studying. We were friends for a year after which I moved to another school but as destiny would have it and because of a few common friends we were still in touch through Orkut, Facebook, Yahoo etc. It was then we realised that this relationship was way deeper than just friendship. We realised the eternal love we had for each other and ended up dating for thirteen years despite living in different parts of Kerala for studies and career and being in a long-distance relationship. Finally, after so many years of knowing and loving each other immensely, he popped The Question- “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” in August 2023.
The Dream Look Becomes A Reality
All thanks to KALKI I looked spectacular on both my wedding and reception. I’m glad I opted for the Khwabeeda beige white lehenga set for the wedding which stole everyone’s heart. The organza lehenga with floral motifs and gold tassel side-tie dori was paired with a golden foil and velvet full sleeves blouse in embroidery, pearls, cut dana and salli work that looked magnificent. The royal lehenga was topped with a pair of dupattas, a beige net dupatta in mesh with embroidery edging, and an organza scallop dupatta which gave the lehenga an opulent look. I choose to wear a statement-making meenakari necklace with chandelier earrings, a maang tikka, and polki kadas along with polki rings for an alluring look. The gorgeous makeup along with a bun accessorized with red roses gave a very classy look. The wallpaper the little girl had watched while growing up had now turned into reality.
Brown, Bearded and Dapper
My beloved didn’t stay behind in making heads turn; he looked dapper in a heavily embroidered brown achkan set, paired with embellished brown juttis and a watch, making a striking impression. The beard and the chic hairstyle complemented his overall look.
Some Love-Filled Lamhe
There were a few glorious moments in the nikah which have been etched in my heart forever. I still can’t get over the beautiful song ‘jeena nahini bin tere sun tu..’ he sang for me with his heartfelt emotions while I praised his grit and determination. My sister’s awe-filled expression upon seeing me in my bridal avatar indicates how elegant and ravishing the traditional Indian wedding dress made me look. Even my husband gave me an astonished look when he lifted my veil during the wedding ceremony which made me feel very elated. We both were overwhelmed with the happiness this euphoric moment gave us.
We had an elaborate photo shoot, hugging, cuddling, and admiring each other, and also enjoying some fun moments with the varmala (garland of red roses) amidst a picturesque décor of red flowers that added a pop of colour to the pictures. Adorning the scintillating bridal lehenga was such a surreal experience that I ensured I had pictures in all kinds of poses, just like the actresses in Bollywood movies. From solo shots showcasing the lehenga to images where I held the ethereal dupatta over my head (ghoonghat) during my bridal entry with a phoolon ki chaadar draped over me, and moments of twirling while holding my beloved’s hand, I made certain to be photographed in every pose, creating a memorable album to be cherished forever.
Had it not been for my dazzling wedding dress and reception dress which were both from KALKI, my bridal look wouldn’t have been as classy and sophisticated as it was.
