Draping a saree like the Queen Padmavati sounds exciting. Isn’t it? Well, to get the most out of your super-versatile saree, you can wear it in a Rajasthani manner. However, not everyone knows how to style this version of a saree. We help you with the style with our step-by-step guide to flaunt that desi Rajasthani style saree look!
Step 1- The Choice Of Saree
First and foremost is your choice of saree and saree blouse pattern. The saree options are endless, but a bandhani saree (tie and dye) is the best for this draping method. Leheriya sarees, block print sarees and bandhani sarees in crepe, chiffon or georgette are considered the best to flaunt a Rajasthani saree draping style.
Step-2- Begin With The Non-pallu End Of The Saree
To begin with, the Rajasthani saree look, do the basics of what you would have done for any saree. Start tucking around your waist to secure the first round. You complete the first wrap once you bring it back to the front.
Step-3- Arranging the Front Pallu
Now reach the other end, towards the pallu, and start making pleats with the width of your saree. Keep the length short and pin it on the shoulder. Try to make the pleats neatly and shape them a bit. Bring the pleats from around your back and throw them over to your right shoulder in front of you. Adjust the pleats nicely to fall on the front and cover the chest. Pin up the corner edge up to your blouse. One can go for a designer blouse, plain blouse, or long kurti style blouse for that perfect Rajasthani style saree draping.
Step-4- Front Tucking Pleats
Now work with the remainder of the fabric in front. Leave a little loop on your left side of the hip and make a small tuck in the front, creating another loop in the front. Now start pleating this second loop from the left so that they can face right towards the pallu. Arrange these pleats one on top of another and leave a little bit of gap in between, so that they create a nice fan effect. Shape them and iron them with your hands so that they can fall into place and now tuck it at the centre of the stomach.
Step-5- For Covering The Head
And that is the Rajasthani way of draping the saree. Rajasthani women who wish to cover their heads can use the first loop that was left falling behind. They can pull more of the pallu onto their face if they wish to cover it.
Step-6- Enhancing The Look
If you like you can add a belt to augment the look. One can use a borla like a Rajasthani woman or queen. You can experiment with bold Rajasthani jewellery to complete the look.
