It was never love at first sight. In fact, when Anushka first noticed Adarsh, it felt more like a long-shot school crush than the beginning of a love story. He was walking towards the football court in an Argentina jersey — tall, confident, with that unmistakable air of someone who was probably already someone else’s crush.

“I remember thinking, ‘There’s just no way a guy like him would ever notice me,’” Anushka says, laughing. “I was just a quiet teenager with a big imagination and a bigger crush.”

But fate, as it often does, had a longer game in mind.

They became friends. Good friends. From school benches to lunch breaks and class projects, Adarsh was always there. But never that way — not yet, at least. They stayed friends through college too, even as life pulled them in different directions. Years passed, messages slowed down, life happened.

Until it didn’t.

This North Indian wedding was a perfect blend of elegance and emotion, brought to life by a team that understood the bride’s vision to the last detail.

Wedding Planning & Decor: @meragi.celebrations transformed the space into a dreamy setting, capturing both tradition and personality.

Photography: Every fleeting moment, from the stolen glances to the grand pheras, was beautifully captured by @thepicturepatchindia, turning memories into timeless frames.

A South Indian Wedding that radiated grace

Before the North Indian pheras where she stunned in a KALKI lehenga, the wedding celebrations began with a soulfully traditional South Indian ceremony in Kannur.

With the charm of heritage and the intimacy of home, this part of the wedding felt deeply rooted in emotion. Draped in a cream and gold family heirloom kasavu saree, she radiated timeless elegance. Every detail—from her temple jewellery to the intricate bridal mehendi—whispered stories of legacy, love, and lineage.

The venue was beautifully orchestrated by Malik Events, creating a warm, ceremonial setting that matched the purity of the moment. The soft glows and joyful candids were perfectly captured by @greatperhapsfilms, while @sijanmakeupartist kept her look natural and glowing—enhancing, not overpowering, her features.

Together, this Kannur celebration was less about grandeur and more about grounding. It was the kind of wedding where traditions met meaning, and every frame was a memory.

But what made her look truly one-of-a-kind was a subtle, heartfelt touch that carried layers of meaning—“Saubhagyavati Bhava” delicately embroidered in Hindi along the border of her traditional South Indian saree. In a world where bridal fashion often chases grandeur, this bride chose intention. The blessing, which wishes eternal marital bliss and good fortune to a married woman, was more than just a design—it was a quiet prayer, a nod to sacred traditions, and a deeply emotional detail that transcended cultural lines. By weaving a Hindi phrase into a quintessentially South Indian garment, she created a poetic fusion of identities and values. It was a reminder that weddings are not just about outfits and rituals—they’re about the quiet symbols, the personal touches, and the love stories etched in every thread.

Please note: The saree featured in the South Indian wedding look is not designed by KALKI.

When Paris Is the Plot Twist

“I was living in Paris when we met again,” Anushka shares. “It was just a coincidence. He was visiting, so we planned to catch up over coffee.”

That “coffee” turned into hours of conversation, aimless walks, and a strange comfort that neither of them could name. “It was like no time had passed, and yet everything had changed. I looked at him and thought — wait, why does this feel different now?”

It wasn’t a cinematic spark. It was slower. Softer. A shift that crept in through inside jokes, lingering glances, and conversations that ended with, “Okay but why didn’t we ever try this before?”

They didn’t need answers. They needed more coffee dates.

A Proposal That Was So Them

Two years into dating — mostly long-distance between London and Paris — Adarsh showed up again.
But this time, he had a question.

“He picked me up, played ‘Azhagiye Marry Me’ on the speaker, and asked me to marry him. No big setup, no crowd, no perfect lighting. Just him, me, Tamil rom-com energy, and a big goofy smile.”

For Anushka, it was perfect. “We’ve never been the grand gesture types. It was a little awkward, a little funny, and absolutely us.”

A Wedding That Felt Like Them — Not Like Pinterest

As someone who never imagined herself as a ‘bridal bride’, Anushka wanted their wedding to reflect who they really were. And that meant embracing both sides of the aisle — literally.

She’s from Kanpur, he’s from Kerala. The wedding brought both worlds together — a North-South crossover complete with baraat beats and gajra counters, ritual cards written in two languages, and a varmala ceremony where her sister sang live.

“It wasn’t about traditions for the sake of it,” she says. “It was about family, food, fun, and a thousand little moments stitched together. Like when Adarsh kept cracking jokes during the pheras so I wouldn’t cry. That’s the part I’ll remember the most.”

In Her Own Words: Anushka Gets Real About Her Big Day

“If there’s one word I’d use to describe our wedding, it’s ‘us.’ Every moment — from the food to the mandap playlist — felt like a big, happy version of who we are as people.” said the bride, Anushka Sharma

We caught up with Anushka after the wedding — here’s what she had to say about the emotions, chaos, joy, and (yes) her pastel dream lehenga.

A Lehenga That Held Her Story

Anushka always knew what she didn’t want. “No reds, no over-the-top glitter, nothing that didn’t feel like me,” she says. “I wanted something soft, subtle, and personal.”

She found her match in a pastel lehenga — not because it was trendy, but because it felt right. The color, the embroidery, the fall — every detail felt like a chapter.

But the real magic? Her and Adarsh’s names are stitched into the veil. Their wedding date. The day he proposed. All delicately embroidered, almost like a secret whispered into fabric.

“When I wore it for the first time, I cried. I didn’t expect to, but it just hit me — this wasn’t just a wedding outfit. This was a time capsule.”

No Bridezilla, Just a Girl Who Wanted to Be Herself

For someone who’s allergic to stress and fuss, wedding planning felt overwhelming at times. “I’m not built for a 200-tab Pinterest board,” Anushka jokes. “All I knew was how I wanted to feel — seen, calm, myself.”

That feeling carried her through every fitting, every moment of doubt, and even those “do I really need five events?” breakdowns. “The best part was letting go of the pressure to be ‘bridal’ and just being…me.”

And Then There Was Him

Of course, there was Adarsh.
The guy who once walked past her in a jersey is now the one who brings her chai on grumpy days. The one who sat through lehenga trials with endless patience. The one who laughs at her worst jokes and distracts her during emotional moments, just to protect her mascara.

“He’s not dramatic. He’s not loud. But he shows up. And somehow, every day with him feels like something new.”

From Classmates to Roommates

Twelve years after they met, Anushka still finds it surreal. “I married my school friend. My old crush. My favourite person. And now we argue about groceries and who took the charger.”

But beneath the daily chaos is that same quiet love that started in the middle of a football field — and grew across countries, years, and moments.

“People keep saying marriage is hard,” she smiles. “But with him, it’s also really, really funny.”

Final Words?

“If you had told 15-year-old me that the guy in the jersey would someday be my husband…..
I wouldn’t have believed you.
But I’m glad I waited.
Because this — this is the good stuff.”
